The Sled Dog Race is a sprint race as opposed to the Iditarod which is an endurance race. The Championship Sled Dog Race consists of 3 heats of 25 miles each, from downtown Anchorage to the Campbell Airstrip.

The 18 dog teams race 1 heat per day, and the winner is determined by adding the time for each heat.
